Dust Motes

Not all those who wander are lost;
All that is gold does not glitter,
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king. ~J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings

Beauty can be found in the tiniest of moments, the most insignificant of details.

There are many simple beauties to be found in a ray of sun.

The sun is full of radiance as it is...warmth and joy and light found within each golden beam.

But as we gaze deeper, past the external brushes of its elegance, there is tremendous beauty to be found within the light.

It is there -- and only there -- we find dancing dust motes.

A room can appear bare, bland, void of all emotion and life, empty of anything of value.

but if we let the curtains fall back, if we let a ray of sunlight pour through the windowpane and flood the room with its pure, unbroken light...

...we get the fainest glimmer.

Those tiny little particles of dust and dirt, things normally considered vile and filthy and good only to be swept away into the garbage...

...are now transformed into the most beautiful glittering phenomenon, right before your eyes.

The sun turns vileness into beauty.

Just as the Son turns my vileness into His beauty.

You, my love, are a dust mote.

Once, seemingly fit for nothing but the fire.

Now, caught in the light of His glory,

you are breathtaking.

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord...but everything exposed by the light becomes visible, for it is light that makes everything visible. ~Ephesians 5:8-10, 13

I look at you and see all the ways a soul can bruise, and I wish I could sink my hands into your flesh and light lanterns along your spine so you know there's nothing but light when I see you. :: Shinji Moon
