clutter

i am a very organized person.

i require neatness and tidiness wherever i go.

however, those of you who have had the rather facetiously-stated pleasure of seeing the interiour of my apartment know that i have trouble taking this concept from shelf to floor.

i have extremely organized cabinets.
bookshelves.
DVD cases.
tabletops and counters.

however, the rest of the place is a bit

well

lacking in order.

i suppose a good and far more appropriate word is clutter.

something i hate, but something i have trouble getting rid of on a regular basis.

cleaning isn't the problem. really, it's not. i can clean in a matter of a half hour, and the place looks brilliant. it's keeping my home in this newly tidied fashion which becomes the issue.

honestly, though, i think our lives are crowded with clutter. if not our homes, then definitely our minds.

date books.
events.
 calenders.
family life.
 education.
the daily grind of work.

so much
noise
so much
shuffle.
so much
confusion.

it's enough to make one's head spin completely off and run away to a darkened closet for shelter.

but even the closets are full of so much stuff.

there is no place to hide. no place for quiet and stillness. at least, not in ourselves.

there is peace, though.

it's waiting on our slightly uneven living room couch. at the foot of our unmade and tousled beds. at the kitchen table that still holds far too many piles of paperwork and charcoal pencils.

it's waiting at the foot of the Cross.

so much peace crying out so loudly.

come to Me, heavy-laden daughters.
come to Me, worn and weary sons.
rest in Me, beloved ones.

in Him, there is no clutter.

only perfect peace.

  1. I'm so glad there is peace in the cross. Cause if all my life mirrored my room I'd be in trouble. :) Perhaps I should clean it.

  2. I will organize something and then announce I will keep it that way. A week later, it's messy all over again. :/

  3. I know exactly what you mean. I like what you said at the very end: "So much peace crying out so loudly." I am glad there is peace somewhere. Sometimes I feel as though I'm digging myself into a hole and the hole is so deep and mucky that all the excess dirt I keep throwing out falls back in on top of me. Or, atleast, something like that. I think I'm going to do some cleaning today. Lots, and lots of cleaning :))

  4. Oh that peace is the sweetest thing I've ever experienced! It frustrates me how much I let stand between me and Christ, the things that I put there of my own free will and, often, hard work. Why?! To have that peace every second of the day! What a thought! "You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on you."

  5. I am exactly what you mean! I LOVE organizing things...but keeping things un-cluttered, is a pretty difficult job for me. I am so glad I can have peace with God. And I know that keeping my relationship with God is far more important then the things of this world. "There is a hunger of our lives, that this world cannot satisfy".

I try to think about that all the time, and take it to heart. And know that no matter what happens in this world, as long as I know God has saved me, it won't matter in eternity. I will come to God with all my struggles, and I know He will get me out of it. Thank you so much for this post! It came at the perfect time for me!

I look at you and see all the ways a soul can bruise, and I wish I could sink my hands into your flesh and light lanterns along your spine so you know there's nothing but light when I see you. :: Shinji Moon
